Slate Mosaic

Question:
I HAVE A SMALL (4x6) RAISED ENTRY FOYER THAT IS 5 INCHES HIGH ABOVE THE FLOOR. The step down into the living room is curved.

I don’t think laying the slate in a grid will look right with the curved edge.
I'd like to 'mosaic' lay the slate.
I've also heard that you do not have to grout the slate...you van just butt the ends together. How does this work?
Have you done much 'mosaic' work with the slate?

Answer:
If what you are applying to is curved, I don’t see how you can butt them without leaving an open joint, I presume your mosaics are 2cmx2cm or 4cmx4cm, why not get a grout the same colour as the slate, if it is a black slate then get a black grout, it blends very well.
